ALL DOGS GREAT AND SMALL DOG RESCUE UK – a brief history
ALL DOGS GREAT AND SMALL (ADGAS) was founded in 2020 by two volunteers; Alison Hetherington & Patricia Daly. Previously (2015-2019 Ali Hetherington’s dog rescue) .
Our aim is simply to help a few genuine rescuers struggling to save stray dogs from the streets and the barbaric kill shelters throughout Romania.
Dogs have no rights in Romania, most family dogs are literally chained up their whole lives as guard dogs neglected and starved with no shelter in -20° winters nor shade / water in 40° summer’s. We save these dogs too.. Most horrific though, is the intentional mutilation either for ‘fun’ or money making schemes on social media…. Some of our rescued dogs therefore have missing ears, tails and limbs.
Many Romanians think of dogs and cats as vermin and will poison, stone, beat and throw fireworks at them just to rid their streets of them! They are hit by cars and left in the roadpuppies dumped inbins, dumped a few weeks old alone in fields they are found in the most terrible condition but we treat them, fix them up and shelter them until we can help to rehome them..
Dog catchers are paid by the government per dog Captured and once in the public shelters aka ‘kill shelters’ these poor dogs are given just 14 days to be reserved or are slaughtered in the most inhumane ways. For us, it is the most heart wrenching and thankless task; disease is rife and the dogs are not fed (greed and corruption) unless volunteers are allowed to bring in food. Even if we manage to rescue them these dogs are often so traumatised from abuse they can often take months to rehabilitate. This is why we require our wonderful supporters to continue to sponsor their foster care until adoption in the UK; the sponsorship is 40€/month to provide them with a safe place, food and health care. All our rescuers are left with enormous vet bills, as do we, hence we rely on donations and fundraising to continue our work.
