We are currently looking for a foster for Josephine (ideally a foster with view to adopt), due to sibling rivalry her and Joseph need to be fostered or adopted separately. Josephine and her brother Joseph were, found in a field together in Romania.
They are currently in temporary emergency foster in Helston, Cornwall TR12, where they are showing signs of sibling rivalry, and fighting with each other occasionally, so we now believe their best chance is to be separated.
Josephine has a longer coat than her brother Joseph, she is approximately 8 months old, medium sized (medium dogs are 11 – 26kg).
Josephine knows some commands like sit, back, down and is puppy pad trained. They love going for walks and are well behaved on long lines, still need training for certain commands but can sit to cross the road just not perfect every time, yet. Loves food and being brushed, but not overly keen of being bathed! They settle nicely at bedtime, both are crate trained, but would prefer not to be left, this is why we feel foster care with another established dog would be of great benefit, ideally they need a dog to show them the ropes of home life.
Josephine is so sweet natured and loves belly strokes. She is very nervous around new people and dogs and barks to warn people away but when she is a bit more confident she adores play and attention. Loves Yak chews.
She’s not as energetic as her brother and likes to please and will sit at road edges and doors before we prompt her to ‘cross’ whereas her brother takes so coaxing. She doesn’t particularly like her collars being touched, so this needs working on. She is fairly good off the lead of there are no distractions and comes back when called or when we shout ‘biscuits’.
She loves food, so training with treats is working well. She likes a puzzle bowl to slow her eating down and regularly have enrichment games with food in. She likes to chew and tug but also loves a cuddle. Crate training has been slow as she doesnt like being left in it unless it’s bedtime.
Josephine does bark and has been known to nip when nervous or overexcited, but with people she knows she melts into the floor for belly rubs. While she appears to love children we have decided it is too much for as she is too nervous to be around any children , although she has been with dog savvy children in previous foster homes. We have had them both flea and worm treated, can provide all that info.
She hates water! But has been successfully showered with her human in the shower which works better rather than in a bath. Josephine needs brushing but she loves to be brushed.
Josephine is a beautiful dog who need someone to give her time to settle and will reward you in kind with unconditional love. Do you have the time, space & energy for one of these lovely young dogs?
